Rotterdam, April 17, 2025 - Auke Ferwerda, founder of EnergyZero and former chairman and founder of the Association of Dynamic Energy Suppliers announced today that he will leave EnergyZero as of June to start a new energy company. With his new venture, he will focus on the opportunities and possibilities presented by the new Energy Act. With the goal of encouraging fair and sustainable energy sharing within new energy communities.
Ferwerda played a central role in building EnergyZero into a leading player in the Dutch energy market. Under his leadership, the company developed an advanced software platform for dynamic energy contracts and grew into a strategic partner of ANWB Energie, among others. EnergyZero is now responsible for processing dynamic power and gas supply to hundreds of thousands of households in the Netherlands.
"With EnergyZero, the foundation has been laid: software that is ready to run a modern energy company with new concepts and what is flexible enough to meet the rapidly changing energy landscape," Ferwerda said.
"It may sound crazy, but I only now feel that we are ready to introduce real innovation in the energy market. EnergyZero's platform will soon give my new company a solid foundation to be able to establish a successful energy concept in the market for all types and sizes of energy connections in the Netherlands."
In addition to serving the consumer market, EnergyZero is currently preparing its dynamic energy platform for the business market.
Hans Valk, CEO of EnergyZero, says: "In the business market, different rules of the game apply and revenue models and innovation are looked at differently. Now that our platform has proven itself to provide hundreds of thousands of households with dynamic power and gas every day, it is a logical step to broaden to the business world, where larger volumes and multiple connections are involved simultaneously."
EnergyZero already currently supplies many SMBs, but always from a consumer perspective. The focus is on additional functionality within the platform for the business customer, including customized billing and usage insights per connection, as an entrepreneur desires.
Auke is wrapping up his work as a board member at EnergyZero Group in the coming weeks and is permanently resigning his role as a director. His duties will be taken over by Hans Valk (CEO) and Stephan Plat (COO). Hans Valk: "We are happy to cooperate with Auke's entrepreneurial desire to start this initiative. Of course we are going to miss his drive and energy knowledge tremendously. It may be in a different relationship, but we will remain closely connected. Together we will still be working every day to shape the change in our energy landscape."
